Decker's family moved from Louisiana to Georgia in the summer of 1995. Decker began to write songs and making frequent trips to Nashville to look for a record deal. An agent from the label that was independent Big Yellow Dog Records heard her at 17 and started selling her music to other labels. Decker was 17 when she snagged the attention of an official from Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her music to label and artist. Then, in August of 2009 Decker released her first self-titled album, titled Jessie James. Jessie James achieved a reasonable amount of popularity, with Wanted reaching at the Top 40 charts. Decker has always been a "country" artist but this album is produced and marketed in a way that appeals to the pop market. Decker was adamant with the label to get greater control over her music following two previous singles failed. Her next release, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. The second album of Decker's was released with the name Daughter of a Gypsy, or Sweet American Dreams. Mercury put it on hold as three of her country singles performed poorly. The album was later canceled.
